The Beginning of the Seven Garage Story

はじまり The Beginning

In this blog, I’ll be documenting the process of building a small garage shed where I can live alongside my Seven.
The lot isn’t very large, and there are plenty of constraints,
but I plan to shape it little by little, finding solutions as I go.

I’ll write honestly about everything—tools, materials, and even the mistakes.
Once the garage shed is finished, life with the Seven will finally begin.

What exactly is a “garage shed”?

When people hear “garage shed,” most probably can’t picture it right away.
It’s too small to call a garage, yet calling it a shed doesn’t feel right either.
It’s a space that sits somewhere in between.

So it might be quickest to show you a model photo first.

This scale model represents the garage shed I’m planning to build.

  • A size just big enough for the Seven to barely fit
  • The height of the roof and the shape of the opening
  • How it connects to the existing exterior wall
  • Keeping it under 10㎡

By sorting through these conditions one by one,
I’m figuring out how to welcome the Seven into this limited space.

Building the model helped me understand the “real sense of distance”
that drawings alone couldn’t convey,
and it made it easier to imagine the order of work and the tools I’ll need.

Starting with the preparation phase

The first half of this blog will focus on
Building the Garage Shed (Preparation Phase).

  • Exterior wall work
  • Removing the storm shutters
  • Moving the storage shed
  • Tool reviews
  • Choosing materials
  • Lessons learned from mistakes

By working through these tasks one at a time,
I’ll be preparing the “place” where the Seven will eventually live.

And then, the main story

Once the garage shed is complete,
the real story—Life with the Seven (Main Phase)—will begin.

  • The story leading up to delivery
  • How the garage shed supports daily life
  • Interactions with other Seven owners

I plan to write gradually about the things that emerge in everyday life.

Finally

This blog is something I hope to continue with the mindset of
“it doesn’t have to be perfect” and “enjoy a life made by hand.”

If you’re interested in garages,
want to try DIY,
or simply love the Seven,

I hope you’ll enjoy following along.
